EU Tutorial

Hey,

today we have something new: Our Video Tutorial which is supposed to show, how the EU works (briefly). I think its a good mix between understandable and informative! It deals with the Codecision procedure after the Lisbon Treaty, so for those of you, who know about this kind of stuff, it might be only a new kind design!

As some of you might have noticed, we have already uploaded this on our webpage. You can see it there in better resolution and appearance!

Launch

Hey everyone. It’s been done. We launched Europolit. From now on you will find interesting debates, positions and views on politics in the European Union there. Check in at http://www.europolit.net and find out about the debates in the EU.

Right now we’re working on new topics, aswell as to find more positions on the debates we already have. We have decided not to wait, until there are about ten positions to every debate. So we decided to publish now. While we have been working on these first debates one thing became clear: It’s hard to get statements. While one would think that politicians aswell as lobbyists or experts do have a natural interest in getting their views expressed, the opposite has been the case. Most of them don’t find the time to write something. I think, partly this was beacuse the site was not yet online, because we’re not so well known, and of course because we don’t really have any connections to the politicians.

Nontheless we think that there already is interesting content, and you should come and see if this is something for you.

Working on the site.

Hey there,

we‘re right now very busy, setting up the site. We have our first 3 debates (one more is also thought of) and we‘re working hard to set up the site. We set our own goal, that is to launch the site tomorrow, on Tuesday. But I‘m not quite sure, if we‘ll be able to do that.

The question for us is: Do we want to publish a site with only little content (which will increase) or do we wait and don‘t achieve our goal? Well we don‘t want to give anyone a bad impression.

But to get you excited, I‘ll tell you about what we‘re planning 🙂

* The first debate will be about Credit Rating Agencies. The European Commission is trying to set up new regulation rules – it is perfectly natural, that these don‘t fit everyone‘s ideas. We have to contributions so far, the first by Michel Barnier, the commissioner for the internal market, and the second by Fitch Ratings, one of the global credit rating agencies.

* Our second debate will be about the traffic-light system. If you haven‘t heard of this, it‘s about labeling food in the form of a traffic light. It has been decided on in the European Parliament and we‘ll try to show the different positions on this one.

* One more debate is coming up – this will be the most theoretical. It‘s about the Europe 2020 strategy, and especially about the impact on the welfare states. It‘s quite thrilling – even if it doesn‘t look like this firstly.

So we‘re working hard on this content. But a lot of work is done by Julia, who is setting up the site, and formatting the content – in two languages. Yes you heard it right. The entire site will be published in German an English. This is a lot of work. We‘re planning on having more languages, but right now we don‘t have the resources for this. One of the next languages might probably french or Spanish – simply because these are the languages most of our friends are talking.

But if you want to help – you‘re welcome. Every helping hand can be useful. So I hope you‘re getting at least a little bit excited now.

What I’m doing right now…

Hey, today I will let you know who I am and what i’m doing within the project. I’m student Cross-Media Concepting at Saxion Universtiy of Applied Sciences in Enschede/Netherlands since 2006. Right now i’m working on my final project, ‘Europolit’, for Saxion until i’m finished with studying in the end of August.
I’m in charge of all creative and technical tasks within the project. My main task is the installation of our cross-media platform with a Content-Management-System which fits best to our case. I will choose between Joomla!, WordPress or Typo3. Furthermore I’m going to implement the communication channels we will use, such as twitter, social-media-applications, e-mail newsletter.
Also I develop the corporate identity for our association. I already worked out a logo and a layout-concept for our main page. The logo consists of a company symbol and a word mark. It’s going to be a very straight and clear design. The main colours will be white, grey and purple.
Another task will be to develop an internal system for managing of articles and media. Furthermore i’m responsible for supervision, support and the continuous extension of the platform. I’m developing and realizing our marketing strategies with other team-members.
I think you could all be curious about the final design and of course, I hope you will all like it. In about 8 days you will see…So long, Julia.
